I didn't do much coverage of all the international fashion weeks this season due to many other projects I've been working on, but I figured I would summarize one of my favorite shows of the season. It's no surprise that I was head over heels for Sarah Burton's new collection for Alexander McQueen. The beauty is beyond words. Every season, the brand redefines art through emotion, history, and inspiration, while paving the pathway for future designers. I'm eager to see how Burton's contribution to the progression of McQueen will pan out over time. Over the next few years, will she influence a new generation of fashion? I'm sticking around to find out. I hope to attend one of the future collections. It would be a dream, to say the least.

ANOTHER DESIGNER HITS THE DUST

First Christian Dior, now Balmain?

If you're not aware, yesterday the press announced that famed star designer Christophe Decarnin has left Balmain, the French fashion house with reasons undisclosed at the moment. Words were flying in the air after he didn't appear at the end of the F/W 11' show in Paris just a few months ago, and sure enough it was bound to come sooner or later?

After joining the label in 2005, he changed the views of many in the fashion world from the once drab and boring collections to bringing life to Balmain. He turned the market to a younger audience and wowed everyone with his rocker-chic collections featuring sequins, mini frocks, and high shouldered blazers with a HUGE price to match.

It looks like 2011 is gonna be the year of change for many fashion houses worldwide. 5 different labels have dropped designers in recent light of the John Galliano scandal with close to no explanation what-so-ever. They really need to look towards the future and not just think about the current season when hiring designers. 

Some more who are now designer-less and in the process of changing things up are other houses like Azzaro, Christian Dior, & Cacharel.

So whats next for the haus of Balmain?

Will it be back to the safe collections we were seeing in the early 2000's or will they really VAMP it up in light of losing the best thing that happened to the brand in 20 years?

WHO WOULD YOU WANT TO SEE DESIGNING FOR THE BRAND?

Mind in the gutter

Sorry for the hold up in recent posts. It's been 8 long days since i've made a new entry, and I feel naked as if I've lost a part of me! It's just been a really busy week! With the ending of fashion week and getting back into a regular schedule, starting my new job working at local LES boutique CONVENT, (which i've actually done a feature about on my blog), and moving into a new loft in Brooklyn and packing for my up coming 10 day trip home to the South this weekend, I'M WHIPPED. By the way, I also have an interview on friday at the Balenciaga showroom for a part time internship! I'm so excited! I'd love to work at the showroom. It'd be a great opportunity to make higher connections in the industry and make headroom for myself as I go.

But I must say, I'm ready to have a little yee-haw in my step for a short while! I plan on doing a lot of thrifting while I'm at home..i've got a lot of items I'm on the lookout for for the upcoming spring season, as well as some consignment I am looking into. I plan on visiting Lula B's antique mall and my favorite place in the world GENESIS with my aunt and mom and making a day out of it.. If you're ever in Dallas, you have to check it out for cool threads and AMAZING finds.

I'm currently still editing content from fashion week, and will probably randomly release it at a later date just because i'm ready for fresh content and the news is SO last week! ;) But lots of new and exciting things are coming in the next few months and I can't wait to share them with you!

In the mean time, i've been keeping close watch with fashion week in it's prime overseas. There were quite a few highlights for me from London & Milan.

My 3 favorite collections in London had to be Mary Katrantzou, Christopher Kane, & Basso & Brooke.

OBSESSED WITH ALL THE PYTHON IN THIS COLLECTION. It's going to be the new trend for the 2011 fall season. I'm calling it now! it's randomly popping up on runways worldwide, and i'm feeling the same vibes for the season. Hoorah, Prada!

Look 16- Trussardi 1911

I'll be honest, i've never paid much attention to this brand, but I saw the first look and I immediately refreshed the page on Style.com. I'm in love with the whole collection. The palettes, textures, and silhouettes accentuate each other perfectly! And the shape of the hats are just amazing. I love the see through red vinyl shield on some variations of the hats. It remind me of those tennis visors women wear in the summertime. SPORTY & CHIC. I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on them in the near future.

Another SURPRISE for me was Roberto Cavalli. I've never been a fan, it's too cheesy euro-cheap italiano for me, but I actually loved the collection. It was a risk taker for Cavalli but he stepped up and brought game. I love all the dark, moody prints and feathers!

Such a great look from this brand! I love that they opened the show with new top model, Mariacarla Boscono! She's soooooooooooo good in my book. She's walked almost every major show this season. It must be her year!

As Paris is just beginning, i'm going to wait til the end before I decide who my faves are but right now i'm already seeing hits with Gareth Pugh, Thierry Mugler, Hakaan, and newcomer in womenswear, Damir Doma. I'm in love with his menswear, which is shocking because there are very few men's designers I follow, but he is definitely one of them and he's killing it for women. I absolutely love this collection, and the look he attained was flawless.

So these are my highlights thus far throughout the MERCEDES BENZ F/W 11' SHOWS, and am looking forward to seeing more from Paris over the new few days.

FIRST POST: FALL FRENZY!

So i've decided to try this out. I've always loved documenting the style and creativity I come in contact with on a daily basis in the fashion world!

Anyways,

I recently purchased an amazing pair of boots from a little boutique. They were marked down from a ridiculous price and I just couldn't take my eyes off of them!

I absolutely love the open toe and the tightly laced, victorian like detailing from the toe all the way up the collar. They are really comfortable and photograph well!

Fashion week is coming to an end in the city of romance, and the fall 2010 collections have been absolutely amazing.

Paris Fashion Week- A/W 2010 Highlights & Picks:

Givenchy:

Another amazing season to one of my all time favorite fashion houses! Givenchy always seems to bring that edge that some can try and imitate but will never replace. I love the metallic hues mixed with the rich velvets. And the lace up booties are to die for!!

Karl Lagerfeld:

I loved the futuristic chic Parisian woman feel that was all over the runway. The hair and makeup was very Prada-esque but had a great aesthetic about it. I absolutely love those boots. And all the patent leather- MMMMMAZING!

Balenciaga:

The color blocking palettes at Balenciaga were absolutely amazing. They fell down on my list for a few seasons, but are definitely back up top with this collection! I love the geometric heel on the shoes. And the yellow and turquoise hues give me chills!

Gareth Pugh:

Gareth Pugh pulls off fashion goth better then any of the other darker designers out there in my opinion. I love the use of textures and the geometric shape. As edgy as his women's collection is, his androgynous men's pieces are just as amazing. I love the feminine shape with the masculine feel. <3333

Neil Barrett:

I love how wearable his collection is. With a minimalistic approach, and black as the main choice of color, it's easily transformed from day to night wear.

Lanvin:

Lanvin is definitely another one of my favorite fashion houses in ready to wear today. This season was memorable. I loved the luxurious edgy woman that he created. Jewelry and fur are always my main focus in their collections. Look at those clogs! (drools)

Martin Grant:

This color palette is so chic! The blue is so rich and pairs beautifully with the choice of fine silks matched with trousers and exotics.

Heider Ackerman:

What possibly can I say other then FIERCE!!?!? I love the sharp cuts in the draping and the very precise tailoring. It really does wonders for the collection. I definitely need one of these leather pieces on my wishlist!

Ann Demeulemeester:

This redefines the fabulous working females in the world. From very sleek business suits, to detailed coats with ropes paired with sky high wedges, to the dark feather embossed trenches. So good. She has quickly became one of my favorite designers.

Viktor & Rolf:

I always live for the out there creations from Viktor & Rolf. The dramatic detail is more interpreted to me as art rather then fashion. I love the exotic fur and the black booties. It really ties together to create a worship worth ready to wear look. Great presentation this season! I love these boys!

and last but not least on my list..

Andrew Gn:

I loved the polished bad girl looks at Andrew Gn. The collection flowed very well with a mixture of overcoats, tiny frocks, and floor length gowns. I love the buckles on the belts, and those boots are killer! I guess it's cause their timeless.

Those are my main favorites from Paris, now it's time to focus on actual homework and then head to my dreams. Photoshoot coming back soon and upcoming projects in the making! :]
