New York Fashion Week Top 10 FW13 picks

When it comes to fashion, in a way I expect certain elements to embody the collections of the designers representing within that city. Thats how I first adapted my favorites through all of the talent within each area of the industry. A little weird I guess, I just look to NYC to give me that pretty, but powerful  downtown girl street edge, while I look to London to give me the punky Brit vibe through vibrant prints and strong silhouettes. Then theres Milan, where I DIE for Italian fashion. The gaudier the better, they have a brilliant way of influencing history and art all around them with fashion and presenting it in a quirky, but forward manner. For Paris, I expect ELEGANCE!!! Always, hard or soft, dark or light, JUST GIVE ME GLAMOUR. Paris is where my mouth drops dead for class beyond any Alexis Carrington Colby you've ever seen. This city holds the demure fantasy of an ideal woman.

...With that being said, these were my favorite collections (in no particular order, LOVED them all!) that I was really looking for during NYFW!

3.1 Phillip Lim
Alexander Wang
Proenza Schouler
Prabal Gurung
Rag & Bone
Kenneth Cole
BCBG Max Azria
Herve Leger
DKNY
Michael Kors
(SHOCKER)..sorry. I'll be honest, i've never been a fan of his work, but I like the direction he's taking with American sportswear. It's finally at a level i've responded to. :D

Also to add, I absolutely loved a few mature collections shown here as well from the likes of Jason Wu,  Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, & Oscar de la Renta!

Marc Jacobs always has a way of dressing the woman's body beautifully. And theres always a story with a picture perfect atmosphere to match it! *I CLEARLY still enjoy the fantasy within fashion*

I'm so happy to see John Galliano back at a fashion house, regardless of the past, set that aside for the real job which is to design cohesive, one of a kind collections for the world to see.

Thats a wrap on #NYFW FW13 edition, kitties!

Sequin-y Situation

By day 3 of harsh winds, frigid temperatures, and snow on and off all day long, I basically said screw it, and started wearing what I wanted regardless of what it was like outside! This was on my way in to the Herve Leger show at Lincoln Center! This season the Azria duo presented a high energy show with printed bandage dresses, killer overcoats, sporty ready to wear paired with black body harnesses & leather baseball caps underneath these massive fox fur HOODS that every accessory-obsessed gal would envy for days! I caught up with Lubov Azria after the show in the AmEx Skybox and stayed for a private Q+A she did with press members! She's so sweet!

* I dont have the best video situation of the finale since I was seated with the AE girls elevated SKY high in the lounge above the theater, but you can watch the full video here! I can't wait to download the soundtrack from this & the BCBG Max Azria show earlier in the week! Love these beats!

Take it to the streets

Photos by moi
Featuring: Choiboko designs

I was very impressed by some of the looks that came out of the Concept Korea show. Seoul based designer, Choiboko showed a bright collection of amazing seperates in eye catching digital prints covered in graffiti. I find graffiti to be like caligropaphy for the modern world.. I've always been fascinated by street art, starting when I was little with Stephen Sprouse & his fashion collaborations, and onto when I got older when I got into Miss Van Dam/Fafi stages. I live in a very art driven area in Bushwick, Brooklyn... so street art is a part of my every day life! I absolutely died for the matching clutches with the strap for your hands! So practical for city life, you always need your hands free! And the leather/faux fur combination biker jacket was another favorite! I cant get over the fact that it looks so animated! Cant wait to see more from him in the future!

You should check em' out as well!
Always share the love! :)

Snow Flurries

(Wearing: Alexander Wang overcoat & bag, Zara hat & skirt, Uniqlo turtleneck and tights, Chloe Sevigny boots, Posso leather spats, & Henry Holland x Le Specs sunglasses)

This was one of the many looks I sported during NYFW. It was hard to master the art of being fabulous and weather conscious, but I think I may have succeeded with this look! It has a sporty feel to it all with the jacket and hat. Perfect for running through the streets all day. These boots are basically heaven to my feet now that i've broken them in, meanwhile people think i'm braving the snow in HELL'S heels.

PS: Always remember to know the weather before you leave your house, otherwise you'll get stuck in the wet snow/rain with my microsuede "Krista" bag by Wang! I almost had a meltdown!

Livin' like BLONDS

Photos by Moi/Sam E. Butler
(Wearing: 3.1 Phillip Lim 2 piece playsuit, vintage moto jacket & spiked collar)

These are some of my favorite outtakes from the BLONDS show during NYFW. You can always expect more of an experience at one of their presentations compared to a traditional fashion week show. The BLONDS aren't about seasons, or trends. They create alternative fantasies where women rule the world as powerful creatures and they transition from one story plot to the next. This one clearly stemming from the 70's psycho thriller "The Shining". They strutted down the runway to slasher instrumentals typical of a cheesy 80's horror movie clad in gorgeous, crystal embossed corsets, screen printed dresses, colorful fur stoles, and large blonde bouffants like something Dolly Parton would wear!
It was definitely a fabulous memory from the week! I caught up with David & Phillip after the show backstage in the AmEx Cardmembers Only lounge over champagne and good conversation! So proud of them!

NYFW Diary: Day 2-5

Photos by Sam E. Butler/Moi
These are my highlights of Days 2-5 all around the tents at Lincoln Center, AmEx skybox, Milk Studios, & surrounding NY locations for other shows, presentations, and parties. Some major moments were the graffiti details at Concept Korea, sequins & fur at Chado Rucci, major slicked pony tails at Joanna Mastrioni, quilted leather earmuffs at Ohne Titel, GIANT fur hoods at Herve Leger, grungy chic at BCBG, EVERYTHING AT SALLY LAPOINTE, Jeremy Scott afterparty at Le Bain, running around backstage with the team at Milk Studios & AmEx, catching up with BryanBoy & FashionToast after Rag & Bone, hob nobbing with Carmen Electra at the Blonds afterparty, Galore Mag party, Private Q+A with Lubov Azria following her Herve Leger show, Q+A with David & Phillip of the Blonds, Sophie Theallet, the duo at Suno, & Cameron Silver of Decades, etc - it was so great chatting with these major figures in the industry and getting to know them on a more personal level!!! <-- b="">None of which wouldn't of been possible without my amazing team over at American Express that took me under their wing as one of their go to fashion bloggers this season!

Featuring details from the Sally LaPointe, Katie Gallagher, Herve Leger, BCBG Max Azria, Richard Chai, Tim Hamilton, Hernan Lander, The Blonds, Chado Ralph Rucci, Ohne Titel, Sophie Theallet, Vivienne Tam, Duckie Browne, Joanna Mastrioni, Suno, Rag & Bone, Tilly & William, Heather Lawton, Concept Korea, & Vantan Tokyo shows! PHEW! I did so many shows this season, sorry if I'm forgetting any! (feeling pretty brain dead after this so called "highlight" of 3 days).

I hope you can enjoy it just half as much as I did!

***Check back for more major highlights + my favorites from the upcoming London, Milan, Madrid, & Paris fashion weeks!
